2009-07-07Reviewer: timjtagot this product and was dissapointed in that when i play my movies on media player classic on my laptop connected to my tv i found them to be better quality than when wd tv used and also i have a lot of wmv movies it wont play it does play some wmv this does not bother much as i got this just to watch 1080p movies as my laptop cant and it seems to play 1080p fine

2009-06-30Reviewer: Trevor ChowCosmo: Rip your DVD collection in .mkv format. It can hold all audio tracks, subtitles and chapters in a single file...much easier than dealing with a bunch of .vob files.
This player is excellent. No noise, extremely compact and a nice gloss black finish. It can use 2 hard drives simultaneously and plays just about anything...including lush 1080p resolution! Much, much better than other media players I've dealt with. No playback problems but I have had the occasional time where it's lost connection to my hard drive.
Note: This player has no support for DTS audio at the moment but I'm sure WD will update this in the future (they seem to be listening to the requests of their consumers; unlike most companies).
2nd Note: For those who like to customise, there are a lot of themes, icons and firmware mods being worked on by various people for this device. Take a look at wdtvc forums for more information.

2009-06-20Reviewer: CosmoI bought this media player mainly to watch movies I’ve backed up from my DVDs. I was disappointed to discover that it will only play the VIDEO_TS.IFO file as a preview of the menus but does not give you access to the menu functions. You also can’t move forward or back by chapter. (A friend has a different player which acts as if you have the original DVD in the drive.) Hopefully as this device is firmware upgradeable this will be corrected soon.

2009-05-19Reviewer: Ian BennettThis is a great little media box made even better by the recent enhancements made by western digital in the shape of their new 1.2.07 firmware. Go to the WD TV site and make sure you get it. Vastly improves thumbnail support and adds support for even more video and audio formats.
